Fri 14th Aug v Castrol Away Disappointing start resulted in a 3-0 loss to our
bogey side Castrol. 2nd half saw the introduction of Damien Rowley & Todd Reid and an improved showing, Damien going close with an effort, and Mike Mackin not quite getting the accuracy right on a good free kick position. Castrol increased their lead against the run of play
and then secured victory in the last minute |

Wed 19th v Upton - Lost 2-1 A much improved team performance on last weeks match,
saw us go close in a hard fought tight contest. Blacon continued to have the ascendency in the early part of the 1st half and from a Ross Broadbent cross James Antrobus was within inches of levelling matters at the far post, however within seconds Upton were to break to the other end and double their lead, when Nathan Freeman struck a fine goal. Blacon now had an uphill challenge, the team responded well, battled hard and continued to have the lions share of play and were rewarded when Niall was brought donw in the box, with Ross Broadbent successfully converting the penalty kick. Blacon continued to press for the equaliser but couldn’t break down the stubborn Upton defence, who held on for a 2-1 victory. MOM - Ross Broadbent Team: Hickling, Joinson, Fields, Dunning E, Reid T, Broadbent S, Broadbent R, Mackin, Peaker, Antrobus - Subs Dunning C & Reid A |

Sat 22nd Aug v Maghull A much improved team performance on Saturday, saw
defeat as a result of 5 minues of madness prior to half-time. 2nd half was a stale affair, with few chances at
either end |

Weds 26th Aug v Helsby Lost 2-1
A good entertaining game saw Blacon just lose out after a
excellent fightback from a strong Helsby team in the 1st half. Blacon started
well and were the team on top in the 1st half, with James Antrobus opening the
scoring after a fine run past several players before striking a 20yard shot into
the bottom right hand corner. Blacon continued to be on top, but couldn;t extend
their lead before going into the break, with new signing Ben Billington causing
problems up front and Damien Rowley powerful down the wings.
Helsby fought back well in the 2nd half and were the stronger
team, levelling matters very early into the 2nd half. Despite being under
pressure Blacon defended well for large periods, until a lapse of concentration,
saw the Helsby left winger cross for a easy tap in the 6 yard box for their
centre forward.
Ellis Dunning went closest for Blacon in the 2nd half with a
good header from a Mike Mackin corner, but Helsby held on for their win, in a
very good and competitive match.

Sat 29th August - v Runcorn Town Lost 6-1
A very disappointing result against a strong Runcorn team, A
difficult match on paper was not helped by the absence of 9 senior players in
the squad due to injury and/or bank holiday committments.
Blacon trailed 2-0 after 20 mins, after a harsh free kick was
awarded against debutant Aaron Price & Runcorn double their lead shortly
after, with a flowing counter attack. Blacon got themselves back in the game,
when James Antrobus converted a penalty, after the referee harshly deemed the
Runcorn Centre Half has felled Josh Armitage (maybe a levelling of matters after
the earlier free kick!!!!!!)
Runcorn soon re-extended their lead before half
time.
2nd half saw Runcorn continue to dominate and add a further 3
goals, to finally run out comfortable 6-1 winners
MOM - Mathew Cross

Weds 2nd Sept Christleton (a) Lost 2-1 A disappointing 1st half performance, (our worst of the season to date), saw us trail our local rivals at the interval 2-0, despite playing so poorly we still ourselves created two very good goal scoring opportunities, which young Damien & Ben were unable to finish. A few harsh words were exchanged at the interval, with a re-formed attacking, hungtry and positive Blacon side emerging, Todd Reid went close with a free kick & Ross Broadbent had a fine effort saved by the Christleton keeper. Blacon continued to press and finally pulled a goal back with a fine moved created by Mathew Cross and finished by Damien Rowley, however with little time remaining an equaliser could not be found and the match ended 2-1 with a poor 1st half performance meaning there was too much for the team to make upmon this occasion MOM - Todd Reid |

Sat 5th Sept - Vauxhalls (h) - 2-2 Blacon collected their 1st point of the campaign in a pulsating game at Cains Crescent, Blacon started the much brighter team, with a high tempo and good attacking football seeing them take the game to the opposition. Blacon made the well deserved vital breakthru after 20mins when an excellent right wing centre from Mike Mackin, found Niall Peaker, who calmly set up Damien Rowley for a cool finish. Blacon continued to press but couldn’t add to their advantage before the break. Vauxhalls were much more positive in the 2nd period and this alongside a much more reserved Blacon team saw them early in the 2nd half draw level, when Blacon failed to clear from a corner. Both Mike Mackin and Todd Reid had excellent chances to re-open Blacons advantage, but were not taken, Blacon were immediately punished with Vauxhalls centre-fwd racing clear to put the motormen in front, when Vauxhalls were harshly awarded a penalty soon after, Blacon looked doomed. However a fine save from Keeper Chris Hickling, gave Blacon a much needed lift. The home side pressed fwd and themselves were awarded a spot kick after the vauxhalls defender was adjudged to have felled his opponent. James Antrobus duly stepped up and converted to level matter. The game ebbed n flowed from each end with both sides seeking all 3 points, but neither was to find the crucial late winner A fine match |
